Master Instructor Brandon Tracy
I had this idea for a portrait session with Master Brandon Tracy of Infusion Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness. The day we finally made it down to the lake couldn't have been more perfect. After setting up all my flashes I paddled in my canoe along the shoreline, careful not to make too many waves, until I found the perfect angle.

Perfect Getaway to Copper Falls
Here's a page with a few photos and notes about our trip to Copper Falls State Park. It's been almost five years since we've had an extended trip with just the two of us. Aside from the scenic beauty of the Great North Woods, we mainly enjoyed just being together. Alone.

Situational Awareness Always
Yesterday I staged a photo that literally made the hair on my neck stand up. I'm creating imagery for the martial arts school I'm part of. One of the aspects they teach in Adult Self Defense classes is situational awareness of your surroundings. It's usually when you're NOT paying attention they strike. There were a few police reports were criminals were doing almost exactly what I decided to portray. I'd thought up how to do the shoot the night before, but once I "got" what I envisioned I sort of scared myself...

Finding Balance In All Things
Over the past year I've sort of become obsessed with training in the martial arts and becoming physically fit. So much so that I've hardly taken photos outside of paid gigs. I'm starting to try and find some balance though, and what better way than doing some portraits of my new BJJ instructor?

Save the Mounds
Chief Clayton Winneshiek of the Ho-Chunk Wazijaci addresses the assemble crowd of protesters to the bill AB-620. It proposed to give landowners the right to "investigate" ancient mounds that date back thousands of years. These investigations had no oversight, and an means could be used by the land owner. In many of the mounds the human remains interred there are often hard to find, especially with some modern devices such as ground penetrating radar. This bill was brought forth as means for some companies to declare mounds on their property to be "empty." These "empty" mounds are unprotected by current regulations which prohibit the removal of human remains from burial sites. If this bill passes it's likely in one case that a series of mounds would likely be mined out for the aggregate that lies beneath them.

My Favorite Photo of 2015
For a number or reasons this is my favorite photo from 2015. I'm looking forward to a New Year and exploring passions outside of wedding photography, or photography itself. As I'm sure you've noticed by now, especially folks who've known me for years, this sudden exploration into the martial arts has really consumed my attention. I've through into the same passion I have being an artist and photographer. I'm beginning to think it may be a good idea to persue further photographic exploration of my journey. Expect to see a lot more photos of this new world I'm experiencing.
