Coach Andrea Nelson from Ford's Gym coaches fighter Marcus Robert Johnson as he warms up before his victorious match in Kenosha, Wisconsin. At first I stood a lot closer to them as they worked together. Something told me to move further back.

Birth of a Raven

I happened into Center Ground yesterday after I was done with another photo shoot elsewhere. I slipped into the studio and captured a few frames of John creating a new piece. It's an amazing window/lintel piece for a private home. He was creating the ravens that adorn it while I was there. What a fun coincidence to happen upon.

Between bouts the announcer would give shout outs to specific sponsors, or to folks who'd earned special accolades in the ring. During one such pause in the action he mentioned coach Andrea Nelson. It was in regards to her efforts in becoming the new franchise holder for the Wisconsin Golden Gloves . He praised her efforts as coach and how she's helped the sport as a whole. Typically this is when the person being thanked would stand and wave to a smattering of applause. Instead she was on the fire escape landing helping her athlete warm up for his fight.
